Harley-Davidson recalls nearly 17,000 motorcycles over rear brake issues
Harley-Davidson has announced a recall affecting nearly 17,000 Softail motorcycles due to a safety concern involving the rear brakes. The company identified an issue that could potentially lead to the loss of rear braking capability, prompting the recall of specific models from the 2025-26 production years.
Models Affected
In a letter submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) last week, Harley-Davidson disclosed that the recall includes certain FLHC, FXBB, FXLRS, and FLXRST motorcycles. The issue stems from a design flaw where a rear brake line may come into contact with the Body Control Module. This contact could create a hole in the brake line, causing a brake fluid leak and subsequently compromising the performance of the rear brake system.

Resolution Plan
According to the motorcycle manufacturer, the company will address the issue by replacing the Body Control Module caddy and related hardware on the affected motorcycles. Harley-Davidson has also committed to inspecting the rear brake lines and replacing them if they are found to be damaged. All necessary repairs and replacements will be provided at no cost to the owners of the recalled motorcycles.
Notification and Support
Harley-Davidson plans to notify owners of the affected motorcycles by mail starting May 18. Owners can also verify whether their vehicle is included in the recall by contacting Harley-Davidson’s customer service line at 1-800-258-2464 or visiting the company's website to check their motorcycle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) against the recall list.
Additionally, recall information is available on the NHTSA’s website, where owners can search their VIN to see if their vehicle is included in this or any other safety recall.
This proactive recall highlights Harley-Davidson’s commitment to addressing safety concerns and ensuring the reliability of its motorcycles for customers.
