This recall marks the third of its kind related to the same engine, bringing the total number of affected vehicles to over 260,000.

Engine debris continues to raise safety concerns

The recall targets non-hybrid versions of Toyota’s twin-turbo V6 engine. According to the automaker, "There is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced." This debris could cause engines to operate roughly, fail to start, or even experience catastrophic failure while driving, potentially leading to a loss of motive power and increasing the risk of accidents.

Toyota explained that engines included in this latest recall were manufactured with additional controls for removing debris. Nonetheless, these units remain vulnerable to damage, as debris could compromise the #1 main bearing, leading to overall engine failure. Toyota has stated that engines produced after this batch incorporate improved #1 bearings designed to withstand debris that may remain after production.

Broader recall history impacts customer satisfaction

This recall follows two previous campaigns. In May 2024, Toyota recalled over 102,000 vehicles and opted to completely replace the affected engines. The second recall, announced in November 2025, targeted additional vehicles, but a replacement timeline was postponed. Toyota now plans to group vehicles from the November recall with those affected by this latest expansion as it prepares a remedy.

The automaker has promised to finalize repair preparations for both the November 2025 recall and the recent expansion within the next few months. Owners are advised to monitor for symptoms such as rough engine performance or failure to start, as well as to contact their local dealers if such issues arise. Mail notifications with repair instructions are expected to follow once solutions are ready.
