Affected Models and Scope of Recall
The recall impacts most BMW model lines manufactured between 2015 and 2021. Of the vehicles being recalled, 195,000 are in the United States, with an additional 136,000 in Germany. BMW has not provided an overall global figure beyond the recall total or disclosed the estimated costs of repairs.
The company has assured customers that repairs will be carried out free of charge. For a small number of vehicles, BMW will replace not only the starter motor but also the battery to fully address the issue.
